The instructions on the add on appear to be incorrect as the aptmgmts.dll file i dont have registered yet the group policy editor works and is fully in tact

the idea behind XP home is to be used by not-so-literate people who won't ever think of opening group policy editor to change any settings

Ya these things never work. I've tried several hacks like this, and although this one is the most promising, you still can't register appmgmts.dll. I just changed all kinds of things including forcing classic start menu for all users. None of it is enforced on other accounts. You end up with the same gpedit as xp pro, but it doesn't work. Also for anyone trying this, put the dlls and msc in the system32 folder (not in system32gpedit files).

GPE isn't for Windows XP Home edition!! This file "appmgmts.dll" won't register so all you have is a GPE for show and nothing more. It doesn't save any settings! If somebody knows how to make the above file to register maybe it would, I don't know for sure. I haven't read online that anyone has a working GPE in Windows XP Home. They might offer steps on how to install it, that's not the problem, getting it to function like the one in XP Pro is!

I think it could work if edited slightly.

Unfortunately this file won't register with regsvr32 in 'run'.

"appmgmts.dll"

The file path is proper but the message says:

"C:WINDOWSsystem32gpeditappmgmts.dll was loaded, but the DllRegisterServer entry point was not found.

This file can not be registered."

All the others worked fine, apart from this file.
